From Player to Coach: Ferrer Speaks About His Clash Against Berdych in the Davis Cup
David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych faced each other 16 times on the ATP tour, including once in the Davis Cup final in 2012, where the Spaniard won, despite the Czech Republic's overall victory.
Now retired, the two men are taking on the role of captain for their respective teams, which will face off this Thursday.
When asked about this, Ferrer replied: "I have a very good memory of that match (in the Davis Cup in 2012). Good, because that year was perhaps the best of my career, and I played at a very high level.
At the same time, it's not such a good memory, because we lost that Davis Cup final, but I try not to think about it too much. We have changed, of course... Well, I don't know about Tomas (smile), I talk to him, but I don't know much about his private life.
Obviously, with age, we put things into perspective; we are more mature than we were back then. It's a period of life that we remember fondly, but in truth, I'm not the type to dwell on the past; I prefer to live in the present and look to the future.
To be honest, when you reminded me of it, the memory that came back was pleasant, but I don't think about it often."
