Fucsovics Wins His 3rd ATP Title at Winston-Salem Tournament

The final of the ATP 250 Winston-Salem tournament pitted Marton Fucsovics against Botic van de Zandschulp. The latter had ended Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard's run in the semifinals and hoped to claim his first ATP Tour title after two lost finals in Munich against Holger Rune in 2022 and 2023.
This match between two players ranked in the top 100 lived up to expectations. The Dutchman led 2-1 in head-to-head matchups against the Hungarian before today's final, but it was Fucsovics, ranked 94th in the world, who managed to impose his game in this encounter.
After a controlled match, Fucsovics had a scare but ultimately triumphed. Leading 6-3, 5-1, he saw his opponent mount a comeback in the second set, but the 33-year-old Fucsovics weathered the storm to win in two sets (6-3, 7-6 in 1 hour and 51 minutes), converting on his fourth match point.
After winning Geneva 2018 and Bucharest 2024 on clay, Fucsovics, who will rise to 63rd in the ATP rankings on Monday before starting his US Open campaign against Denis Shapovalov, has now claimed his very first hard-court title.
Having delivered a flawless performance in North Carolina, he had defeated Hugo Gaston (6-3, 6-3), Tallon Griekspoor (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), Roberto Bautista Agut (6-4, 6-3), Jaume Munar (7-5, 6-3), and Sebastian Korda (by walkover) before facing van de Zandschulp in the grand final.
