Garin still affected by his incident with Bergs: "He was totally out of control".
Cristian Garin and Zizou Bergs made headlines in the 1st round of the Davis Cup last weekend after colliding during a side change.
Garin, who was hit in the face by Bergs, spoke to Radio Pauta about the incident and how he felt at the time:
"I think we deserve something, I don't know what exactly, but it's crazy that the ITF didn't ask how I was doing.
He (Bergs) was totally out of control, and in that collision, he hit me in the eye after three hours of play. Getting hit in the face like that... The gesture seemed malicious because it was totally avoidable.
I was really angry. I didn't understand how it had happened, that he'd come up and hit me, it was very strange. [...]
I wonder what would have happened if Bergs had bumped into the chair umpire? Why does it have to be different? There are so many things that don't make sense.
I had a red mark over my eye, I wasn't bleeding, but I couldn't play at 100%."
