Gasquet delighted with Nadal's presence at Roland-Garros: "It's wonderful that he's here"
Invited by the organizers to play in the major tournament, Richard Gasquet reflects on the impending French Open. Very happy to be able to set foot on this mythical complex, at least once more, he agreed with most observers: the Parisian tournament has never seemed so indecisive.
When asked about the favourite to win the title, he explained that there really wasn't one: "It's the first time I've seen such an open draw. Djokovic didn't play much, Sinner and Alcaraz were injured. Nadal isn't the Nadal he used to be. You're back to normal. Before, you knew who was going to win.
Quite logically, the Biterrois also returned to the subject of Rafael Nadal. The presence and, above all, the form of Rafael Nadal is a subject that has the whole tennis world in a frenzy. Questioned on the subject, the man who has known 'Rafa' since childhood and junior tournaments, was enthusiastic about the Majorcan's presence. It will be interesting to see his match against Zverev. He's capable of winning this match. It's a tough draw, but if anyone can do it, it's him. It's already great that he's here. Let's hope he keeps it up for as long as possible."
As respectful as ever, the Frenchman also had a word for Alizée Cornet, who announced her retirement at the end of this 2024 edition of Roland-Garros. Asked about this player he knows very well, he explained that we should give credit where credit is due: "Alizé had a great career, she started young and won some great matches. She's someone I like, who's played well and had a great career. Respect for what she's achieved."
As for his tennis, Gasquet will be on court this Sunday to challenge Borna Coric on the Suzanne Lenglen.
