Mpetshi Perricard wins the Lyon tournament!
What a crazy week for Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Invited by the tournament organizers, he put together a string of majestic results to claim the first ATP title of his young career on Saturday. Winning the final against Tomas Martin Etcheverry (6-4, 1-6, 7-6 in 2h28), he was able to settle down on Lyon's clay for the last time.
After victories over Sonego (6-3, 6-4), Gaston (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Bublik (6-4, 7-5), this magnificent final win was the icing on the cake for him. Faced with an opponent very much at ease on clay, he went through all the emotions, even saving a match point, before being able to raise his arms. Ultra-aggressive and very successful, his high-risk game (41 winners, 15 unforced errors, 11 aces) was finally rewarded at the end of an immense final.
A native of Lyon, the Frenchman thus brought a magnificent end to a tournament that was to see its last edition: a Lyonnais crowned for the last time. Now it's off to Roland-Garros for both men, with hopefully confirmation to come for Mpetshi Perricard (invited by the Parisian tournament).
