Tabur, the only bright spot for the French in Metz, Müller advances in his debut in Athens
Six French players were on court this Monday in Metz and Athens, with a generally disappointing overall result.
At the Moselle Open, only Clément Tabur, world number 243 and a qualifier, saved the honor. The young Frenchman scored the first top 100 win of his career by dominating Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-3, 6-2). He will face Francesco Passaro or Alexander Blockx in the second round.
The other French representatives all fell: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was beaten by Vitaliy Sachko (7-6, 6-3), Valentin Royer lost to Cameron Norrie (6-3, 6-7, 6-3), Quentin Halys fell to Matteo Berrettini (6-2, 6-4), while Ugo Blanchet, a wild card recipient, could not resist Learner Tien (6-3, 6-3).
In Athens, Alexandre Müller won a tough battle against Jan-Lennard Struff (6-3, 2-6, 7-6) and will face Tomas Etcheverry or Mackenzie McDonald for a place in the quarter-finals.
