Gasquet finally wins again: "The end of the film is never easy".
Richard Gasquet has finally found his way back to success on the ATP circuit.
Facing Thiago Monteiro in the first round of the ATP 250 Metz tournament, the Biterrois went through all kinds of emotions before coming out on top (4-6, 6-4, 7-6).
Even saving a match point, Gasquet finally snatched his first win since the French Open.
Speaking to L'Équipe, he explained: "He's a player who plays better on clay, so I knew I had a chance.
I started badly, but I managed to fight through and the end of the match was very difficult. I could see myself losing the match. It's nice to be able to win a match on the circuit.
It's been a while since that happened to me, and to experience some emotions with that match point saved. Because this year, it hasn't been crazy.
I've won over 600 matches in my career, but in 2024, I won four, which is very, very few. Pfff... that's low (he smiles).
The end of the film is never easy, otherwise you don't stop. So it's nice to be able to win this match, even if it's still difficult, 7-6 in the third, the end was physically tough."
