Cori Gauff narrowly defeated Moyuka Uchijima, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
While she had numerous opportunities in the third set to win the match, she ultimately only managed to pull through in the tie-break.
The reason was an extremely high number of double faults, 21, with 10 of them coming in the third set alone.
In her post-match press conference, she addressed this statistic: "I need to work on my serve, get more balls in the court.
I felt good today. If I had made fewer double faults, I could have won in two sets.
I felt like I was dominating in the rallies, but it's always tough coming back from two tough losses."
Gauff will face Maria Sakkari in the next round this Monday.
