Gauff on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: "One side is getting killed faster than the other".

Gauff on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: One side is getting killed faster than the other.

It's no secret. Coco Gauff doesn't mince her words. Accustomed to speaking out on a wide range of subjects, however political, the American doesn't hesitate to take a stand. In a lengthy interview with The Times (for which she will be appearing on the cover in May), the 20-year-old expressed her views on the conflict raging in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas.

Not hesitating to challenge her audience, the world number 3 explained that not defending Israel was not the same as being anti-Semitic: "I don't support mass violence against innocent people on both sides of the spectrum. And one side is getting killed faster than the other. [...] I feel that if you don't support what's happening in Gaza, you're accused of being anti-Semitic. I don't feel that way at all. I'm not the kind of person who fears something I feel informed about. And I feel pretty informed on this subject."

This is not the first time the American champion has taken a stand on the "subject", as she has already publicly expressed her support for a ceasefire and the total release of the Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.

On the tennis front, Gauff is due to play her third round match this Saturday against Dayana Yastremska (world no. 34).
