Gauff slams his fist on the table: "Most internet coaches have never coached at a level similar to mine".
Coco Gauff will not be playing in the Australian Open semi-finals.
The American, number 3 in the world, lost in two sets to Paula Badosa (7-5, 6-4) and will not be taking part in the semi-finals starting on Thursday in Melbourne.
Disappointed with her performance, the winner of the US Open 2023 and WTA Finals 2024 was asked about the comments that players can receive on social networks or on television after certain defeats.
Gauff was quick to add: "I think you just have to realize that most internet coaches have never coached at a level similar to mine, or even played at that level.
It's easier to get an outside eye on it. You'll hear people say: 'Oh, she should have done this or that'.
Even when I watch games, I'm like that too. But of course, when you're on the court, it's different. There are people who want to do things right, so obviously it's not all bad.
But that's also how I want to see it. At the end of the day, when I'm playing, I'm the one who has to make decisions.
I'm just proud of myself, that's all I can say. I promise I'll keep doing what I can to improve.
I want to live up to what I expect of myself. Whatever people on the outside may say, it doesn't really matter. I can't control that," says Gauff.
