Gauff Wins Painfully Against Collins in Her Montreal Debut

Coco Gauff, the top seed in Montreal in the absence of Aryna Sabalenka, made her tournament debut against Danielle Collins.
The match started well for the world No. 2 as she took the first set 7-5, in a relatively messy set featuring seven breaks.
But Collins wasn’t done yet. Despite trailing by a break in the second set, the world No. 61 managed to fight back and claim the second set 6-4.
Everything came down to a highly uncertain third set. Although Collins served for the match at 6-5, Gauff forced a tie-break.
In the end, the world No. 2 prevailed, winning the tie-break 7-2 and sealing the match 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.
The match was marked by a high number of double faults—23 for Gauff and 13 for Collins.
In the next round, Gauff will face Veronika Kudermetova.
