"I have a slight ankle ligament tear," reveals Andreescu after withdrawing against Andreeva in Montreal

Plagued by injuries since the beginning of her career, Bianca Andreescu faced another setback during the WTA 1000 in Montreal in recent days as she began her tournament run.
Injured in her left ankle on match point against Barbora Krejcikova in the first round—which she ultimately won in straight sets (6-3, 6-4)—the Canadian was unable to continue her campaign against Mirra Andreeva and was forced to withdraw before the second round.
During a press conference, Andreescu explained her last-minute withdrawal before facing the world No. 5 and disclosed the nature of her injury, which currently jeopardizes her chances of competing in Cincinnati, though she hopes to recover in time.
"Unfortunately, I have to withdraw. I need to take precautions because of what happened. I have a slight tear in my ankle ligaments. It’s really awful because this has happened to me before. Honestly, I don’t have much to say.
"It’s very frustrating for me and my team, obviously. We do everything we can to prevent these kinds of injuries. I’m taking it day by day, but obviously, the ligaments are a bit torn, so it takes time.
"I hope to be ready for Cincinnati. The only thing I could think of, honestly, was: ‘Why, again?’ I think I even screamed, ‘Why is this happening to me again?’ I was upset, obviously, because I was playing in front of my home crowd.
"I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s getting really hard. It was an unexpected incident. It was bad luck—it just happened. We work on it every day. We do foot and ankle exercises. We really can’t explain it.
"Maybe it was the emotions. Maybe I was a little tired. I just landed my foot in a weird way. Yeah, we can only say it was an accident. That’s the only thing we can say," Andreescu elaborated to *Punto De Break*.
