Goffin earns his first top 30 finish since 2022!
Is David Goffin back to his best?
A semi-finalist in Winston-Salem last week, the Belgian followed up his performance at the US Open with a perfect first-round victory over Alejandro Tabilo (ranked 21st in the world) (7-6, 6-1, 7-5).
On a great day, Goffin gave no chance to a Chilean who was totally outmatched and unable to find a solution against the former world number 7.
Impressive on serve (16 aces) and devilishly percussive in the exchange (46 winners, 29 unforced errors), he scored his finest victory since two years ago, when he beat Carlos Alcaraz, then world number 1.
The 33-year-old's bluffing performance takes him through to the second round, where he will face the winner of the duel between Mannarino and Coric.
