Good news for France on the eve of the Davis Cup Final 8 draw
France has secured its ticket to the final phase of the 2025 Davis Cup and will additionally be seeded for the draw. Thus avoiding Italy and Germany, Paul-Henri Mathieu's team knows its potential opponents in the quarter-finals.
After victories against Brazil and Croatia in the qualifiers, France has earned the right to compete in the final phase of the 2025 Davis Cup. In two months, in Bologna, France will attempt to secure their 11th title in this competition, eight years after their last victory.
As the Final 8 draw is set to take place this Wednesday, France learned that they will be seeded, in third place behind Italy and Germany. Consequently, France is guaranteed to avoid these two nations in the quarter-finals and will therefore not face Jannik Sinner for a spot in the semifinals.
France's potential opponents are Spain, Belgium, Austria, and the Czech Republic or Argentina. As reported by L'Équipe, these two nations are tied in points and have played the same number of matches, and a draw will determine the fourth seeded nation, and thus, by extension, France's fourth potential opponent.
However, France may still face Spain with Carlos Alcaraz. David Ferrer's team, which overcame a two-win deficit for the first time in their Davis Cup history against Denmark, will aim to perform better than last year, where they were defeated at home by the Netherlands in the quarter-finals to begin the Final 8 in Malaga.
