Hamburg: Five More Withdrawals Confirmed for the Tournament, Including Sinner
Next week, just before the Roland-Garros tournament, the ATP 500 event in Hamburg will take place. Usually held in July, the German tournament has been moved to May this year.
After the withdrawals of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ugo Humbert, and Sebastian Korda on Thursday, five more players initially announced as participants will also not be competing in Hamburg in the coming days.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, still competing in the Rome Masters 1000 for his comeback tournament after a three-month break, will ultimately skip Hamburg and arrive at Roland-Garros with just one clay-court warm-up event under his belt.
Currently on court for his semifinal in Rome, Lorenzo Musetti, the tournament's 2022 champion, has also withdrawn. Tommy Paul, who is also scheduled for the semifinals (against Jannik Sinner, in fact), has confirmed his withdrawal, as has Holger Rune, despite his early exit in the Eternal City, losing to Corentin Moutet in the third round.
Finally, Hamad Medjedovic, who lost in the first round to Otto Virtanen in Rome, is the fifth player to withdraw from the Hamburg tournament today. These withdrawals benefit Damir Dzumhur, Daniel Altmaier, Francisco Comesaña, Bu Yunchaokete, and Alexander Bublik.
It's worth noting that if another withdrawal occurs in the main draw, French player Arthur Rinderknech, ranked 75th in the world, would be next in line to enter the main draw on German clay.
