Every year, many players make headlines on the tour during one or several tournaments, hinting at a promising future. Yet, many never reach the expected level or face numerous physical setbacks that hinder their progress.

"He disappeared from the planet"

In the latest episode of the podcast Nothing Major, Sam Querrey discussed the case of Hyeon Chung, who was considered a great hope after his breakthrough in 2017 and his semifinal at the Australian Open in 2018.

"I think Hyeon Chung is a really striking example. He had reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, got that huge blister on his foot, and then disappeared from the planet.

And he was only 22 years old. Everyone thought he would stay in the top 10 for many years. Today, we simply wonder what happened to him."

Ranked 368th in the ATP rankings, Chung has been playing Challenger tournaments in Asia for several weeks now, without yet regaining his former brilliance.

In 1973, Billie Jean King did far more than beat Bobby Riggs: she toppled a symbol. Five decades later, the “Battle of the Sexes” is reborn between Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios, but this time, the battle seems to have lost its soul.
