Hewitt on de Minaur's chances at the Australian Open: "Alex has as good a chance as anyone to go far"
Having been eliminated from the United Cup, the Australians can now focus on the upcoming events, in particular the Australian Open.
In a press conference after the match against Great Britain, Lleyton Hewitt was asked about his player's chances at the Australian Grand Slam, having suffered a major injury in 2024.
He replied: "I'm delighted that Alex is back and playing the way he wants to.
As he just said, his close-knit team knows exactly what he's been through and how frustrating it's been, but he's continued to give 100% and not make excuses.
In the week or so he's been here, training and working hard, it's great to see him enjoying it, pain-free and moving as he pleases on the pitch, and everything else is starting to fall into place.
As he always says, it's all about enjoying this month of the year and appreciating these moments.
When you're retired, these are the moments you miss, playing in front of your fans.
Alex has as good a chance as anyone of going far at the Australian Open, but first things first.
First you have to get there, take care of business and, if possible, find a way to make it through to the second week of the tournament.
After that, anything can happen."
