After his first-round victory over Matteo Gigante, Ugo Humbert was once again up against a qualifier in the shape of Hady Habib.
The Lebanese player was in fine form, and in the process scored the first victory by a Lebanese player in a Grand Slam tournament.
Humbert held his nerve to win 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. He didn't have to save a break point.
In the third round, he will meet Arthur Fils, who beat Quentin Halys earlier in the day.
This is the first time since 2019 that two Frenchmen have met in a Grand Slam third round, the last time being Gaël Monfils against Antoine Hoang at Roland-Garros (Game, Set and Maths on X).
The presence of a Frenchman is therefore guaranteed for the Round of 16, potentially against Alexander Zverev.
