Humbert, Solid, Dismisses Borges and Advances to the Semifinals in 's-Hertogenbosch
Ugo Humbert has reached the semifinals of the 's-Hertogenbosch tournament (known as Bois-le-Duc in French). On the Dutch grass courts, the Frenchman, seeded second, confirmed his strong form with a win over Daniel Evans (7-5, 6-3). In the quarterfinals, the world No. 20 faced Nuno Borges, who had benefited from Otto Virtanen's withdrawal in the previous round.
Starting strong from the outset, Humbert overwhelmed his opponent, who managed only two winners in the first set. After pulling ahead with a double break, the Metz native—who won the Marseille tournament earlier this season—wrapped up the first set in just 29 minutes.
Despite a brief resurgence from the Portuguese player in the second set, Borges couldn't shake Humbert's dominance. The Frenchman, who had reassured fans about his hand injury sustained in April during UTS Nîmes, broke his opponent's serve again midway through the second set before sealing the match (6-1, 6-4 in 1 hour and 7 minutes).
With 21 winners (including 5 aces) and 15 unforced errors, Humbert was also rock-solid on serve, not facing a single break point against the world No. 38, who was seeded seventh in the Netherlands. The 26-year-old Humbert now advances to his second semifinal of the season and will face the winner of the match between Karen Khachanov and Gabriel Diallo for a spot in the final.
