"I am convinced they will do a good job," Murray reacts to the announcement of his statue at Wimbledon
Andy Murray will further cement his place in English tennis history when Wimbledon honors him with a statue in 2027. Indeed, to mark the tournament's 150th anniversary in two years, the organization aims to celebrate by paying tribute to its local legend. The man himself responded to this major announcement:
"I am very proud. There aren’t many statues at Wimbledon. I also remember seeing Fred Perry’s statue when I walked around and trained there over the years."
The former world No. 1 also reflected on the statue unveiled at the Shanghai Masters 1000 in 2011, a creation that hadn’t fully convinced him:
"When we played in Shanghai, they made these terracotta warrior-type things, and it wasn’t great. But given how Wimbledon approaches things and the attention they pay to detail, I expect it to be very good. So I am convinced they will do a good job." Comments reported by Tennis Up To Date.
