"I am truly disappointed with the entire process," Hewitt to appeal his suspension
Lleyton Hewitt, Australian tennis legend and captain of his country's Davis Cup team, has been caught by the patrol in recent hours. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has suspended the former world number one for two weeks due to offensive behavior toward an anti-doping control officer following his team's defeat in the semifinals of the 2024 Davis Cup against Italy.
Additionally, Hewitt, 44, has been fined 30,000 Australian dollars (approximately 17,000 euros). In a press conference before the World Group qualifying match against Belgium in Sydney, Hewitt announced that he intends to appeal the ITIA's decision.
"I am truly disappointed with the overall decision but also, to be honest, with the entire process and the lack of facts that were presented. But I will begin the appeal procedure with my legal team, so I won't discuss it further," Hewitt stated, according to comments gathered by L'Équipe.
