I Consider Myself Easily Top 100," Rising Star Royer Reflects on His Cincinnati Run

After coming through qualifying, Valentin Royer defeated Ofner before falling to Khachanov in a tight match (6-4, 7-6) in Cincinnati. Speaking to *L’Équipe*, the world No. 104 looked back on his run in Ohio, hoping to build on this momentum.
"Six months ago, I might not have been able to compete at this level. There might not have even been a fight. Today, there was one. And maybe in six months, I’ll win. There are still plenty of areas to improve, but I’m happy with my match, even if I’m a little frustrated not to have pushed it to a third set. At that stage, I could have really tested him.
I’m a bit disappointed, but also pleased with my tournament. It’s encouraging. I consider myself easily top 100. I made a guy like Khachanov sweat, and also someone like Sebastian Ofner, who was ranked 30th last year. I feel like I belong here, and I’m comfortable in this environment. It’s only a matter of time. As for the US Open—wild card or not, I’ll fight the same way on the court."
Regarding his future goals, the 24-year-old hopes to secure direct entry into the main draw at the Australian Open:
"Yes, that’s a very clear goal. I know the level is there. I might get more favorable draws than others, but at some point, you have to win matches. Whether in Masters 1000s or Challengers, it doesn’t matter. There are still two and a half months to try and qualify for Australia. Full throttle until the end of the year to finish the season strong and start the next one in the best possible way.
