I played flatter, and I think that was the best decision," Swiatek opens up about the changes she made on grass
To her great surprise, Swiatek claimed the trophy at the prestigious Wimbledon tournament. A clay-court specialist, the Polish player managed to adapt her game to a surface she wasn't initially fond of. Speaking to the WTA website, she shared some insights about the adjustments she made to her game:
"I went all in. I just needed to be brave with my decisions on the court. In previous years, I tried to play like I did on clay, trying to put as much spin on the ball as possible. That wasn’t the right choice because it made my opponents' shots easier.
But this year, I decided to rely more on my intuition to react to whatever the grass demanded. I played flatter, and I think that was the best decision. I was more aggressive in the early stages of rallies, and that put a lot of pressure on my opponents.
