I think we can do great things," Kyrgios confident about his partnership with Osaka at the US Open
The US Open organizers surprised everyone by introducing a brand-new format for mixed doubles. Indeed, spectators will witness unprecedented pairings featuring the world's top male and female singles players. While the duo of Alcaraz and Raducanu is the most talked-about, other equally unexpected pairings could also create a stir.
Asked by TNT Sports, Australian Nick Kyrgios shared his thoughts on the event and his partner Naomi Osaka:
"As a Grand Slam doubles champion, it certainly doesn’t carry the same weight as a singles Grand Slam winner, but with all these amazing pairings, I think it’s a huge innovation for all of us.
In what other sport in the world can you see your favorite female athlete team up with your favorite male athlete and compete for Grand Slam prizes and a trophy? Pairings like Raducanu and Alcaraz have generated so much excitement for our sport. As for my partner, Naomi Osaka, I think we can do great things.
This is an incredible event for tennis. The US Open mixed doubles will be something special. There are so many unbelievable pairings—it’s a great innovation to get more fans watching and seeing their favorite players compete together.
