"I vomited 37 times," claims Zverev after his defeat against Muller in Hamburg
Alexander Zverev will not win a second title at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. Crowned two years ago and a finalist last year, the German was defeated by a French player for the second consecutive year.
After Arthur Fils in 2024, it was this time Alexandre Muller who managed to get the better of the world number 3. In a match full of twists and turns, the latter finally won at the end of the suspense (6-3, 4-6, 7-6).
Present at a press conference after this new early elimination, the Australian Open finalist at the beginning of the season opened up about his difficult preparation for this match, having apparently not had the best night before facing the Frenchman.
"I vomited 37 times and I had a fever of 39.4 degrees all night. I think there are two players in the world who could have played today. I am one of them, and I am very proud of it. He realized at one point that I was not feeling well and continued to play the points as long as possible. It was smart of him," assured the three-time Grand Slam finalist to our colleagues from Univers Tennis.
