I was about to quit," Sabalenka's confessions about her dark period with her serve
Aryna Sabalenka won her second consecutive US Open last weekend, the fourth Grand Slam of her career.
Widely leading the WTA rankings, the Belarusian has since made the rounds in the media and was a guest on Jay Shetty's podcast, similar to Novak Djokovic in August. Among other things, Sabalenka looked back on her period of doubt in 2022 due to her serving problems:
"There was a moment in my career when I was close to quitting. It was three years ago when I was making double faults. I couldn't serve. I don't know what happened to me. Something happened and it just wasn't working.
Despite that, I kept playing and still ended up in the top 10. But I was about to quit because I didn't know how to fix it. We tried everything. I repeated it, I worked on it, we worked on the psychological side. But we couldn't fix it.
We then hired a biomechanics expert and he helped me understand some details. I had to go through that period, stay strong and not give up. After that, I was able to win my first Grand Slam. It was completely crazy emotionally.
