I was in a daze," Osaka's message explaining her speech in Montreal

Despite a positive week in Montreal and a return to the forefront, Naomi Osaka was defeated in the final by Victoria Mboko.
During the trophy presentation ceremony, the Japanese player, frustrated by this loss, spoke very briefly. So much so that she forgot to congratulate her opponent. She eventually apologized on the social network Threads on Friday:
"Thank you, Montreal, it was an amazing journey. I also want to apologize and congratulate Victoria. You played a great match and have a very bright career ahead of you! I realized I didn't congratulate you on the court. Honestly, I was in a daze.
I wanted so much not to give the same speech as in the Indian Wells 2018 final or repeat the Jenny/Jennifer situation (2021 Australian Open final) that I tried to make my speech as short as possible. Thank you all for this week, see you in New York.
