"I was still a bit sore when I arrived, but this time I played without anti-inflammatories," Humbert reflects on his Eastbourne victory
Humbert advanced to the 20th semifinal of his career by defeating Harris (7-6, 6-1) in Eastbourne, all on his birthday (27 years old). Speaking to L’Équipe, the Frenchman reflected on the circumstances of his win after enduring tough weeks due to injuries:
"I try to focus every time to do my best after a not-so-easy period. Winning matches fairly easily without necessarily playing my best, just by being solid without doing anything extraordinary—that’s also what builds confidence. It proves my average level is there.
I’m just super happy, I’m enjoying being at 100%, pain-free, just stepping onto the court makes me really happy. In 's-Hertogenbosch, I hurt my back a little, and it lingered. When I got here, I was still a bit sore, but this time I played without anti-inflammatories, so I feel good."
For a spot in the final, he will face the winner of the match between Britain’s Evans (170th) and American Brooksby (149th).
