"I was very impressed," Fissette, Swiatek's coach, reflects on the Pole's Wimbledon triumph
Wim Fissette, Iga Swiatek's coach, discussed his protégée's Wimbledon title from earlier in the season.
Swiatek rediscovered the taste of victory this season. The Pole, currently the world No. 2 player, started the 2025 year with a severe lack of confidence but built momentum to win Wimbledon, thus ending a one-year trophy drought since Roland-Garros 2024.
A title that wasn't necessarily expected given the difficulties the 24-year-old player has faced on grass since the beginning of her professional career. Her coach Wim Fissette discussed his protégée's title in the English capital.
"We had a training week in Majorca, which was really nice because it allowed us to combine work and relaxation. Then there was the preparation tournament in Bad Homburg, and I thought she played very well (defeated in the final by Pegula).
I felt like she had no confidence on this surface before, but that confidence was growing day by day. And you know, if a player like Iga (Swiatek) can gain confidence day after day, anything becomes possible.
I rewatched her last two matches, where she played against Bencic and Anisimova, and I thought they were perfect performances from her. I was very impressed, and it's truly an unforgettable memory to finish the tournament with two matches like that," Fissette told Sportskeeda.
