Jannik Sinner didn’t miss a beat in his debut at this year’s Cincinnati Masters 1000. The world No. 1 and current defending champion of the Ohio-based tournament comfortably defeated Daniel Galan (6-1, 6-1) in the second round and will face Gabriel Diallo for a spot in the round of 16.

After the match, the Italian, who had withdrawn from the Toronto tournament in recent days, appeared at a press conference. He will now have to defend his title points in Cincinnati and at the US Open within the next month.

"The reality is, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect today, but I’m leaving the court happy. It’s never easy to play here under these conditions. The balls fly a lot, they’re very fast.

If I want to progress and go all the way in this tournament, I know I’ll have to adjust to all of that. Still, there are certain aspects of my game where I can improve, and in the upcoming matches, I’ll need to get better.

I also have to say that for a first match here, it’s hard to imagine a better outcome. You start feeling the heat as match time approaches, as you get closer to the court. That’s what these adaptation days before the tournament are for.

Not only do you warm up for five minutes on the court, but players also develop a training routine in the gym to get their bodies warmed up, to start sweating and acclimating to the conditions.

It helps a lot in getting used to what’s coming next. Luckily, today everything went well for me, but I’m aware things can change at any moment, especially under these conditions.

For now, I can’t complain—I’m very happy with how things went on the court," he assured in recent hours after his victory, speaking to *Punto de Break*.

As a laboratory for tomorrow’s tennis, does the Next Gen Masters have a future?

Conceived as a bold bet to prepare for the post–Big 3 era, the Next Gen Masters has shaken up the codes of modern tennis. A pioneering, visionary tournament, but now in search of an identity.

Since February 2022 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Ukrainian sport has been heavily affected by human, structural and economic losses. Tennis has, of course, not been spared. While Ukrainian athletes have had to rethink their entire organization, an entire country, behind the scenes, has had to adapt and change its training conditions. This extends all the way to the highest level, where professional players have spoken out, trying as best they can to help their nation.

Exhausted but omnipresent stars, ever-longer tournaments and exhibitions that have become a business in their own right: tennis is revealing its deepest contradictions, torn between spectacle and physical survival.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
