"I wouldn't say it's my favorite surface," Alcaraz discusses his relationship with clay
Alcaraz approaches the Paris tournament full of confidence. Winner of Monte-Carlo and Rome, the Spaniard has lost only once on clay this season, against Rune in the Barcelona final (7-6, 6-2). In an interview with the Roland-Garros media, the 22-year-old player spoke about his connection with this surface:
"I wouldn't say it's my favorite surface. I think it's more hard courts, but I grew up playing on clay. When I started, I only wanted to play on clay. I didn't set foot on a hard court until I was 11 or 12! Clay is always special for Spanish players.
I have managed to elevate my level of play on this surface, I feel good on it, and my game suits it. I enjoy every match I play on this surface, and as soon as the season ends and we switch to grass, I miss it!"
Alcaraz will face Giulio Zeppieri (ranked 306th in the world) on Monday for his debut in Paris.
