"I'm still a little emotional," Mboko overjoyed after her prestigious win against Gauff in Montreal
Victoria Mboko delivered one of the standout performances at the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal. The 18-year-old Canadian defeated Coco Gauff in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) and will now face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the quarterfinals.
Mboko spoke at a press conference after her victory, savoring this win against the two-time Grand Slam champion, which marks one of the highlights of her young career so far.
"This was one of the biggest matches I’ve played in my career so far. Right now, I’m really happy with how things went.
Playing against Coco (Gauff) is obviously never easy. She’s the world No. 2, so it was a huge opportunity for me to face a player of that caliber. I’m glad I managed to stay composed today and pull off the win.
I don’t even know what to say right now. I was a little surprised by everything—it all happened so fast. There were a lot of people. I feel like I’ve processed the whole situation a bit better tonight, but I’m still a little emotional.
I’m really happy and pleased with how things went today and that I’ve advanced to the next round. Honestly, I didn’t feel too much pressure.
I wanted to be even more relaxed than usual because it was obviously crucial to find the key to her serve. I just tried to stay as calm as possible and not panic," Mboko told *Punto de Break*.
Mboko has a potential ... and smile that lights up the room!
