Insolite - Collins equals a crazy record and gets ironic
Despite announcing her retirement at the end of the season, Danielle Collins enjoyed a prodigious 2024. Very relaxed, the American, ranked 54th in the world at the start of the season, is making her mark. After an unthinkable Miami/Charleston double, Collins made it all the way to the last 16 in Madrid (finally beaten by titleholder Aryna Sabalenka). On the strength of her fine results, Collins is now ranked 15th in the world. Signing 15 consecutive victories, she also becomes the oldest player to win so many matches in a row since Serena Williams in 2015.
Teasingly, the American responded on her social networks in a rather amusing way to the announcement: "Who'd have thought a granny like me could win 15 matches?"
Whatever the case, Collins is close to the top this season and is probably hoping to climb even higher... To be continued!
