Insolite - Federer returns to a scene that has become mythical
Retired since 2022, Roger Federer now confides in us on a much more regular basis about his career and life in general. In an interview with El Pais, he recalls one of the most legendary scenes in his rivalry with Rafael Nadal.
Think back. The year was 2022. Federer's last professional match, at the Laver Cup. At the end of this doubles match played alongside Rafael Nadal (defeat by Sock and Tiafoe, 4-6, 7-6, 11-9), the Maestro and Rafa both broke down in tears, realizing that a page was being turned, definitively.
Looking back on that moment, Federer explained that he had kept a framed photo of it at home. He explained that he didn't want to forget: "I have it framed at home in a space where I have a few images from my career. I don't want pictures everywhere, so I have them in a specific area. And when I walk past it, it always catches my eye, because it reflects our camaraderie, our friendship and also our rivalry, all in one image.
It's a moment when we can both reflect on everything we've just been through, remembering our careers and how lucky we were to be tennis players, to have been able to turn our hobby into a dream job."
