Irresistible Collins reaches semi-finals in Rome
Since announcing that this season would be her last, Danielle Collins has been developing a tennis of great beauty. Suffering from endometriosis, the American is unlikely to continue playing on the circuit after 2024. Facing Victoria Azarenka, Collins unrolled her tennis to win (6-4, 6-3 in 1h44). Having qualified for the semi-finals in Rome for the first time in her career, she will be up against another Belarusian as she faces No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka for a place in the final.
The American has had a truly memorable season. With 19 wins from 20 matches, Collins has already won back-to-back titles in Miami and Charleston. The craziest thing about all this is that her only defeat came in Madrid, against Sabalenka, her future semi-final opponent.
Ranked 69th in the world in January, Collins will be at worst 12th in the world at the end of the Italian tournament, making her more than ever a title contender wherever she goes.
See you this Thursday for the world number 15 to find out if she can reach another final.
