Isner Explains Djokovic's Withdrawal from Rome: "He Only Has One Tournament in Mind"
Djokovic’s clay-court season has been nothing short of a nightmare so far. After early exits in Monte-Carlo and Madrid, the Serb withdrew from the final Masters 1000 event on clay, Rome.
While many have questioned this decision just weeks before Roland-Garros, some analysts see clear reasons behind it. According to Isner, who has faced the Grand Slam record-holder 12 times (with two wins for the American), the conclusion is obvious:
"I think Djokovic only cares about one tournament right now. It’s hard to be certain as an outsider, but I believe Novak is solely focused on Wimbledon at this point. Winning Roland-Garros is very tough for him, and maybe he’s realizing that now.
With three-to-five-set matches over two weeks on clay, facing all the top players and Sinner’s return, it’s highly unlikely he’ll win. Clay isn’t his best surface, and he’s not playing well at the moment."
