"It Was a Goal," Says Blockx About the Next Gen ATP Finals
Alexander Blockx, currently ranked 116th in the world, arrives at the Next Gen ATP Finals as the second seed, following the withdrawals of Joao Fonseca and Jakub Mensik.
With this status, the Belgian intends to come here for the ultimate victory. In an interview relayed by Tennis Actu, Blockx stated: "It was a goal from the beginning of the year.
Yes, I think I've had some good tournaments this year. All the players who are here have truly earned their spot, and it's the same for me. It's already something good, a nice thing.
Victory as the goal
The goal is to win. I think as the second seed, I can say I've earned my place here. And I think the level is there too: I feel good, I've beaten many of the guys who are here."
The first Belgian to qualify for this tournament, Blockx hopes his participation will lead to more for his compatriots: "For me, personally, it's not a big deal, because I was already often among the best of my age, let's say.
But it's a good confirmation for me, for myself, that I'm on the right track. And I hope there will be other Belgians who participate here at the Next Gen. I don't know how, or who will still be there, but... that's it. For a small country like Belgium, it's not easy to have many players at the highest level in tennis."
