"It would be nice to go far in a Grand Slam," Mboko shows her ambitions for 2026
Victoria Mboko will certainly be one of the players to watch on the WTA tour next year. The 19-year-old Canadian player has had an incredible rise this season, first breaking into the top 100, before truly bursting into the public eye with an exceptional run at the WTA 1000 in Montreal, where she won the title at home against Naomi Osaka.
What to expect from Mboko in 2026?
After a series of defeats following her triumph in Canada, the world No. 18 then tasted the joy of a title again and lifted her second trophy on the main tour in Hong Kong. Well positioned to be seeded at the Australian Open, Mboko must now confirm in 2026. She already has high goals that she will try to achieve in the coming months.
"If I had told myself at the beginning of the year that I would be world No. 18? Certainly not, absolutely not! It was my first year playing a full schedule. Seeing my ranking slowly rise was really nice. I can consider this year as a learning opportunity.
I continue to improve as a player and as a person. When I arrived in Montreal, I just wanted to win one or two matches at home. When I lost the first sets, I didn't think too much. I just told myself: 'You'll find the solution'. The crowd helped me a lot, the rest is history.
In hindsight, I wish I had taken more rest after Montreal, but I was so eager to play my first US Open. I learned that you really have to listen to your body. You never know what might happen next year. But it would be nice to go far in a Grand Slam, to experience that two-week journey and face the best players," Mboko told Match Point Canada.
