"It's not our choice," says Cincinnati tournament director about the Monday final

In a lengthy interview with journalist Ben Rothenberg, Bob Moran, the Cincinnati tournament director, addressed the controversy surrounding the date of the tournament's final. Scheduled for Monday, it will take place on the same day as the start of the US Open qualifiers.
"Yes, it's not our choice. The ATP wants to give more time. That's it. Do you think I want a final on Monday? No, I don't. But they wanted certain rest days for the players. The ultimate reason for the two-week tournaments was to give players more time off."
For context, Bob Moran began his career in tennis with a significant role at the Charleston tournament. Since 2024, he has been the director of Cincinnati and also oversaw the renovation of the tournament's site in 2022.
As president of "Beemok Sports and Entertainment," which operates tournaments owned by Ben Navarro’s "Beemok Capital" (father of Emma), he is also an alternate tournament representative on the WTA Board of Directors and a member of the WTA Tournament Council.
