"It's very positive for our sport," Collins approves of US Open's new mixed doubles format

Danielle Collins has reached the semifinals of the new mixed doubles format recently introduced by the US Open. Partnered with fellow American Christian Harrison, Collins is savoring her final moments on the tour in 2025, having confirmed that the New York Grand Slam will be her last tournament this season.
Admitted into the draw at the last minute after the withdrawal of the pair Sinner/Siniakova, the two American players have made the most of their late entry, with victories over Bencic/Zverev and then Townsend/Shelton.
Tonight, the duo will have to overcome the defending champions Errani/Vavassori to try to reach the final of this tournament. In the meantime, Collins has praised the US Open's new mixed doubles format.
"I had a feeling we somewhat predicted that we would get in. We kept telling each other that if someone withdrew, we would play the tournament. We were prepared for it.
Christian (Harrison) had told me twice, but I didn't understand. At one point, I asked him: 'When are we going to get into the draw?' Christian said: 'I told you twice that we got in as alternates.'
How many tournaments give people the chance to come here and watch tennis for free? I think it's very positive for our sport to offer this kind of hospitality to our fans. I was over the moon.
What an incredible concept. When we arrived today, a few friends said: 'We're going to try to go to the match.' I asked my team: 'Do we need to buy tickets?'
When they told me it was open to everyone, I thought it was the best concept ever," Collins told Tennis Channel after securing her spot in the final four alongside Harrison.
