"I've decided to temporarily step away from the tour," the heartfelt message from Cressy

Currently ranked 681st in the ATP, Maxime Cressy is going through an extremely tough period. With 8 losses in 11 matches, the player who once peaked as world No. 22 has struggled throughout 2025. Plagued by injuries and mentally exhausted, he has decided to take a break to recharge, as he shared in an emotional message on his social media:
"Hello everyone!
I just wanted to be honest and transparent: I’ve decided to temporarily step away from the tour to focus on recovering from a lingering lower back injury and the emotional toll that comes with it.
Since 2023, I’ve been dealing with intense lower back pain, but I kept playing through it. I’ve dedicated my entire life to becoming the best tennis player I could be.
I wish I could have been the best, but I know I gave it my all, and that brings me great peace.
I’m grateful for the support and love I’ve received throughout my career, and for those who have stood by me on and off the court."
As a reminder, the French-born player, who became a U.S. citizen in 2019, was particularly strong on grass, winning Newport and reaching the Eastbourne final in the same year (2022), among other achievements.
