"I’ve reached a consistency I’ve never had before," Musetti savors in Rome
Lorenzo Musetti continues his impressive run in Rome. After already reaching the final at the Monte-Carlo Masters and the semifinals in Madrid, the world No. 9 confirmed his progress by advancing to the final four in the Eternal City.
The Italian dethroned the defending champion and world No. 2, Alexander Zverev (7-6, 6-4), to set up a semifinal clash with Carlos Alcaraz. A satisfied player faced the press after this brilliant victory over the German.
"Of course, I got a bit lucky saving all those set points, but I was brave and played every point with full focus. In the end, I’m happy I fought until the finish, just like the motto of a famous football club reminds us (Juventus Turin, his favorite team).
I’m glad I found the right solutions to break in the second set. I’ve always shared a passion for this sport. On a night like this, and in a tournament like Rome, I think kids dreaming of becoming champions can get even more inspired by the performances of Jannik (Sinner), Jasmine (Paolini), and Sara (Errani), who are leading Italian tennis.
Often, I can see in the kids watching us from the stands the same dream I had when I was in their place, and I believe winning matches and being consistent is the best message we can send them.
I’ve reached a balance and consistency I’ve never had before. I’ve improved a lot in my daily work, and the week in Monte-Carlo definitely gave me confidence.
That’s when I became aware of my abilities and my level. But I’d already felt more structured on the court for a long time. It’s thanks to a qualitative improvement in my daily work.
But there’s still so much to improve, and I say this while keeping the same ambition," Musetti told Super Tennis shortly after his victory.
