Jacquemot, Qualified for the Final in Contrexéville, Set to Debut in WTA Top 100
Elsa Jacquemot will compete in the final of the WTA 125 tournament in Contrexéville. The 22-year-old Frenchwoman secured her spot after victories against Susan Bandecchi (6-2, 7-5), Kathinka Von Deichmann (3-6, 6-2, 6-2), and Simona Waltert (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) to reach the semifinals.
In the quarterfinals against Waltert, Jacquemot was down 3-0 in the third set before ultimately triumphing over one of her longtime rivals (she had trailed 5-1 in their head-to-head record before this match).
In the semifinals, the script from her previous matches repeated itself as the Lyon native dropped the first set against Oksana Selekhmetova. The Russian player, who had upset top seed Varvara Gracheva in the previous round, aimed to take down another Frenchwoman in the Vosges but ran into Jacquemot’s resilience this time.
In a tense battle, Jacquemot prevailed after a grueling match on the clay courts of Contrexéville. After 2 hours and 42 minutes, she emerged victorious in front of her home crowd (3-6, 7-6, 7-6) to advance to the final, where she will face world No. 122 Francesca Jones on Sunday afternoon.
Following her third-round run at Roland-Garros and a second-round appearance at Wimbledon, Jacquemot, in strong form in recent weeks, is set to make her debut in the WTA top 100 this Monday (she is currently ranked 95th in the live rankings).
