Jelena Dokic announces the death of her father
On her social media, Jelena Dokic announced the death of her father, Damir, at the age of 67.
The Australian had a difficult relationship with her father, who was her first coach. She had spoken about his authoritarian and psychologically abusive behavior. Damir was also known in tournaments for his many outbursts and had served a year in prison for threatening the Australian ambassador in Serbia. Following all these events, the former player decided to cut ties with him nearly ten years ago.
Jelena expressed herself on her Instagram account:
"My father passed away in the last hours of May 16, 2025. As you know, my relationship with my father was difficult and painful, with many incidents. There are a lot of complex emotions clashing within me. Despite all this and the fact that our relationship was so difficult, and even though we haven't had one for ten years, it's never easy to lose a parent, even one you have distanced yourself from."
