Kokkinakis on famous referee Lahyani: "He'll say the score like you're screwed"
The UTS tour doesn't have all its advantages, but one thing's for sure: it allows us to offer original content. By allowing players to confide in us without a filter, we often learn more about different subjects.
For example, on the sidelines of the UTS Grand Final in London (December 6-8), Thanasi Kokkinakis, Denis Shapovalov and Dominic Thiem sat down to discuss a whole range of topics.
Referring to the way in which Mohammed Lahyani, one of the best-known referees on the circuit, announces the score, he humorously declared: "Speaking of referees, has anyone ever noticed that? And I like him, I think he's a nice guy, but Mohammed Lahyani tries to add so much sauce.
If you notice, for example if you're playing and you're down 0-30 or 0-40, he'll say the score like you're screwed and already broken. It's as if he's saying to you: 'Thanasi, you've got to be better'."
