Kudermetova looks back on 2024: "A very difficult season".
The year 2024 has not been an easy one for Veronika Kudermetova. World No. 9 in 2023, the 27-year-old Russian is now ranked 76th in the WTA.
She hasn't played a final on the circuit since January, and has also missed several tournaments due to recurring injuries.
In an interview with Championat, she talked about the physical problems that have affected her season: "I wouldn't evaluate this season by asking myself whether it was successful or not.
For me, it was very difficult. I had to deal with a lot of problems. A series of injuries throughout the season which had a very strong impact on my physical condition.
It's really hard to pick out one particular positive moment, at least in the context of my psychological tension and condition.
As a negative event, I'd say my defeat by Camila Osorio in Guadalajara (the Russian was leading 5-0 in the third set).
I learned some important lessons from that match, but at the time it was really complicated for me", she confided.
In fact, Veronika Kudermetova has no plans to make much of a break from tennis: "It's hard to call it a vacation in its own right, as we have very little free time.
First of all, you have to try to heal everything that's bothering you, to solve medical problems.
I'm now at home in Kazan, and I've started functional training at the same time as rehabilitation. Then, in Dubai, we'll continue with specialized training."
