Kyrgios, a return to competition imminent?
Things are becoming clearer for Nick Kyrgios. Injured for too many months, he has hardly been seen in competition since the summer of 2022. And yet, it was in 2022 that he began to develop a regal tennis style that was even positioning him as a serious outsider for a Grand Slam title. A Wimbledon final, beaten only by Djokovic (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6), then a US Open quarter-final, stopped by a great Khachanov (7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4).
Not hiding his disappointment, the Australian persisted at the time, insisting that he had the tennis to win a major. Unfortunately, the whimsical Aussie's physical prowess took the wind out of his sails. Injured at the Tokyo 2022 tournament, he has since played just one match, at Stuttgart 2023 (defeat by Wu 7-5, 6-3).
However, Kyrgios' time in the wilderness seems to be over. A few weeks ago, he assured us that he would be back in competition, and now he has published images showing him back in training, with a decent level of intensity.
The question now is, how soon can he make his comeback? Can we expect to see him playing on grass, or will we have to wait for the American hard court? To be continued!
