Kyrgios on his return to the circuit: "There was only a 15% chance that I would be able to return to the top level."
Nick Kyrgios will make his comeback in early 2025, almost two years after his last match on the ATP Tour.
Motivated by the prospect of playing in front of his home crowd at the Australian Open, and with the aim of winning a Grand Slam, the former Wimbledon finalist opened up about his return to competition: "Honestly, this is probably the best time I've had in two years. I had an incredible year in 2022.
Then, during the Wimbledon final and at the US Open, I started having problems with my wrist.
I had to have my wrist reconstructed. There was only a 15% chance that I'd be able to return to the top level, and here we are. It's going to be great to play in front of my fans again."
Despite rumours of retirement, Kyrgios confessed that he didn't want to give up tennis because of injury: "I always wanted to leave the tennis world by my own decision. I wasn't going to let this injury dictate whether or not I could ever play again."
