Kyrgios' revelations about Djokovic and his wrist
Nick Kyrgios is preparing for his return to competition, where he is expected in Brisbane from December 29. He opened up about his feelings and his adventures with his wrist: "It was a wrist reconstruction, so four holes were drilled in my hand.
There was a piece of string holding my wrist together and my fingers looked like sausages when I came out of the operation.
I had a cast for about 12 weeks, with no movement, and had to relearn how to use my right wrist, even just carrying shopping bags. Everything was painful.
But then I started to feel a real improvement after nine months, to a point where I feel like I'm playing like I did in 2022."
Novak Djokovic also played a role in Kyrgios' comeback. While the Australian was working as a commentator during Wimbledon, he had the opportunity to practice with Djokovic: "I was playing with Novak.
He said to me, "You don't look like you've had any surgery." That gave me a lot of motivation to say to myself that maybe I was making progress to come back, because I didn't really know.
It was a great motivator for me. If he hadn't told me that, I don't know if I would have been motivated and kept thinking about it. It was certainly a big part of the process, when he told me that."
