Kyrgios Withdraws from US Open Participation
Nick Kyrgios does not see light at the end of the tunnel. The Australian has been hampered by recurring injuries for the past three years. The former world No. 13, now ranked 644th in the ATP, has not played a single singles match since the Miami Masters 1000, where he suffered a second-round defeat to Karen Khachanov in Florida.
Already withdrawing from Cincinnati, where he was set to use his protected ranking, Kyrgios must also pull out of the US Open. Just hours before the draw, Kyrgios confirmed his withdrawal and will not participate in the 2025 edition of Flushing Meadows.
The 30-year-old player has not competed in the US Open since 2022, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Khachanov. Although he participated in doubles at Washington, playing the tournament alongside Gaël Monfils, Kyrgios still does not know when he will return to competition.
Nick Kyrgios is the sixth player to withdraw from the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. After losing in the first round of the Australian Open to Jacob Fearnley earlier this year, Kyrgios joins Arthur Fils, Grigor Dimitrov, Matteo Berrettini, Hubert Hurkacz, and Kei Nishikori on the list of players unavailable for the American Major, which begins on August 24.
